Ski Resort Profile: Sun Peaks BC

Located just 45km from the town of Kamloops, Sun Peaks is Canada’s second biggest ski resort with 4720 acres of terrain.

The resort is famous for its’ perfectly groomed cruisers, and 58% of the terrain is ranked intermediate blue. 32% of the terrain is black or double black rated.
There’s lifts rising out from the town on both sides of the valley, and a few back bowls as well. This means slopes face every direction on the compass, which makes finding quality powder in winter and sun-softened snow in spring easy. It also means Sun Peaks has a large amount of genuine ski in- ski out accommodation.
The town centre is compact and has a distinctly European style. It’s not party-central but there’s still plenty happening in town.
When it comes to employee housing, Sun Peaks has plenty of small affordable rooms for approximately $1000pm. Sharing a room is common, and $500 per month for accommodation this close to the slopes is a pretty good deal.
Sun Peaks is also a genuine 4 seasons resort, so if you like the place after a winter, there’s plenty of jobs and entertainment to keep you there all year.
Pros: Relaxed vibe, employee-friendly accommodation, and huge terrain for intermediate skiers. You don’t need a car in the winter.
Cons: Doesn’t get as much snow as other resorts in BC, and has limited frightening terrain for expert skiers. There’s also a limited amount of affordable housing if you don’t get accommodation with your work.
Final Word: Perfect for your first ski season, especially if you haven’t been on skis since you were two years old.
