Why take the course
The Rescue 3 Whitewater Rescue Foundation (WRT- F) course is designed for anyone starting out in whitewater with little or no experience. It is suited to kayakers, canoeists, packrafters, stand up paddle boarders and is also perfect for adventure tour guides, educators or anyone requiring a basic level of water safety and rescue skills in a moderate whitewater environment. This course covers the foundation skills used in all our water safety and rescue courses. If you already have existing river experience however, the following courses may be better suited: WRT-REC https://www.facebook.com/events/1150705769316450/ WRT-PRO https://www.facebook.com/events/1141043313706410/ PREREQUISITES Participants must be 18yrs or over, a confident swimmer and not pregnant. This course is physical in nature. Please advise Oceania Rescue of any medical issues before undertaking booking and course. TRANSPORT You will require your own transport. If you need assistance getting to Tully Gorge National Park- Recreation Park (Rec Park), 2.5hrs South of Cairns, please let us know. CAMPING Camping at Tully Gorge National Park- Recreation Park (Rec Park) may be a good option the night before. Bookings can be made via https://qpws.usedirect.com/ Facilities include: • Outdoor shower • Flushing toilets Alternatively, accommodation can also be found in the town of Tully (30min away) or in Mission Beach (50 min drive from Tully Recreation Park). FOOD Please bring your own lunch/ extra food if camping. RIVER GEAR Please ensure you have the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment approved for white water and in good condition. If you do not have this gear, please advise at the time of booking. • Helmet • PFD/ Jacket (with quick release) • Waist throw bag • Whistle • Appropriate water gear (Thermals or light wetsuit) • Appropriate water footwear TEMPERATURE: The Tully River is in tropical Far North Queensland, where the water temperature is usually quite comfortable.
