Using AI to find staff or jobs in the adventure sector

Whether we like it or not, AI is going to be more widely used in the future, and that has implications for the outdoor adventure community.

The good news is, AI won’t be replacing huge numbers of jobs in the outdoor sector. When a raft overturns, and people need rescuing AI won’t throw a rope or help reassure a customer who’s just had a swim.

Tourism businesses thrive or die on the strength of their front line staff, and I’m pretty sure guests don’t want a robotic experience some AI enthusiasts are predicting. The human touch will always matter.

In this podcast we look at how AI is currently being used by job hunters and employers. We also look at the implications with AI use, and ask, “are the best candidates getting interviews?”.

Extensive AI use can make terrible candidates look great and great candidates being overlooked because they get rejected due to keyword discrepencies.

Job hunters who use AI can sling out resumes to huge numbers of employers. They can also game the employer’s application process to maximise the chances of interviews and job offers by aggressively enhancing (aka bullshitting) their resumes. We are  even seeing  entirely fake candidates being generated by AI.

In this podcast Matt references an artlcle by Hugh Son  that predicts 25% of all candidates will be AI generated by 2028. We are already seeing AI candidates getting jobs and receiving wages. The more nefarious ones steal intellectual property or install malware for ransom payments.

Creating fake candidates will become easier, and while they are being used to target the tech sector now, fake candidates will become more common in the toruism and adventure sectors. Imagine being a job hunter and creating a fake candidate to trial an application process. If a fake candidate gets a job, the human who created the fake, can simply copy the same procedure and get the same result.

HR departments and job hunters have to learn how to use AI, and more importantly when (and when not to) use it.

I hope you enjoy the podcast.

And if you haven’t already joined SEE YOU NEXT SEASON as an employer or job hunter, we’d love to have you one board.
