First up a massive thank you to Roscoe Montgomery for sharing his deep knowledge about working ski seasons in the EU. Thanks for all the great questions from the audience too.
We know hiring managers are getting swamped with resumes but hearing about Roscoe’s company receiving 3000 resumes for less than 20 positions highlights how big the problem is.
Hiring managers don’t need much of a reason to throw a resume in the bin. If you are job hunting using resumes, it needs to be high quality to survive the cuts.
Our top tips are:
- Have a high quality respectful headshot (no party photos, sunglasses, goggles, other people, pets, etc). Photos of you performing the role you are going for are also very effective.
- Have the details employers really need to know at the top of your resume.
- Resumes must show employers what you can provide to their company. Your passion for skiing does not matter.
- If you are requested to provide additional material such as cover letters or introductory videos, not doing this = an automatic rejection
- Unsolicited resumes just waste everyone’s time.
SEE YOU NEXT SEASON is shifting away from resumes / CVs. This is designed to save hiring mangers’ time and ensure better employee/employer matches. If you haven’t created a free employee profile on our site please do so and start sending it to hiring managers via their ads. Please note we limit the number of sends to create better matches and ensure employers on our system aren’t getting crushed with “long shot” applications.
If you do get an interview, see our blog post titled, “How to nail your interview“. Another pertinent blog entry is our “Top 12 mistakes when looking for a job“.
Just a final little tip re visas. Your two best sources of information are going to be official government sites and your employer.
If you don’t have an EU passport please see sites like this French Government page for Working Holiday Visas or discuss the visa situation with your potential employer. Many of them will have procedures in place to ensure you will be working legally.
Good luck everyone.
