Recruiting on social media is free for a reason. The costs come later.
Social media is a great way to reach large numbers of job hunters, but how effective is social media at finding quality seasonal staff for your adventure or tourism business?
In this podcast we examine why social media is becoming an increasingly ineffective way of finding staff. We look at what happens when job ads go viral, and we argue that social media is the platform-of-choice for lazy and poor quality candidates.
It’s now very easy for young people to apply for hundreds of jobs. Social media and AI allow job hunters to throw out a very wide net, and this is becoming and increasingly common tactic. Hiring managers are getting swamped, and the over-reliance on social media as a recruiting platform means hiring managers aren’t finding great candidates. They are just picking the least worst option from a very large pile.
Recruiting on social media leads to more mis-matches, more “no-shows”, and more headaches. We are starting to see employees using AI to create that perfect CV for a job they can’t do. These technology savvy job hunters use social media to apply for a large number of jobs.
The best candidates are not necessarily the ones getting the interviews. Job hunters with great AI skills are the ones getting interviewed.
We understand why hiring managers go to social media to find staff, but it should be a last resort, not first choice option. This is especially the case if you only need a few roles filled.
We hope you find our podcast helpful.
