Sunlight Mountain is located just above Glenwood Springs in Colorado. 40 Miles to the South is Aspen and 60 miles west of Vail.
Sunlight Mountain is not like the neighbouring mega-resorts. It’s a 3 lift community hill that prides itself on being hospitable and having “old school skiing”.
You won’t find fine dining at Sunlight. What you will find is friendly staff and some seriously good skiing. There’s 2000ft of vertical and 730 acres of terrain, everything from gentle green groomers to seriously steep glades.
Yes Sunlight Mountain promotes itself as a family resort but there’s certainly enough steeps to keep advance skiers entertained. And yes, some of them are definitely steep enough to get your heart rate up.
Sunlight has and extensive cross country ski trail system, with the trail heads at the base of the mountain. Many of the trails at Sunlight Mountain Resort have amazing views of Mt Sopris and the Elk Range.
Another great thing about working a season at Sunlight Mountain is getting free skiing rights via The Indy Pass. Yep, it’s road trip heaven. There’s resorts in Utah, Wyoming, Arizona etc all on the system.
And after a hard days skiing you can soak those sore muscles in the Glenwood hot springs or have a natural sauna in the Vapour Caves.
Glenwood Springs has affordable housing and it’s a pretty fun town to spend the winter. You also don’t need to sell a kidney on the internet to pay for a night out on the town.
Glenwood Springs has plenty of summer fun with with mountain biking at Sunlight and rafting on the Shoshone rapids on the Colorado River. Year round employment is possible in Glenwood Springs.
