Why destination marketing to seasonal workers matters.

In this podcast Matt and Iain examine the consequences of understaffing on a tourism destination’s brand.

It’s a follow up to the What Motivates Seasonal Employees podcast, the target audience is tourism associations, chambers of commerce, and employers who hire people in tourism towns and resorts.

The podcast discusses deteriorating service levels in high end destinations,  and encourages tourism associations to seriously consider their current short and long term marketing strategies to attract seasonal workers.

Here’s a quick test to see how seriously your destination is when it comes to solving the understaffing crisis. Go you your tourism associations strategic / destination plan. These documents are often over 100 pages long, and provide a road map for the tourism industry over the next 5-10 years. Type in the words “staff”, “workforce” and “employee” into the search function, and see how many times they appear in your destination plan.

Most destination plans either don’t acknowledge the problem, and if they do, it’s a line item with no long term plans to fix it. Without adequate staffing levels, your destination plan is seriously compromised and unattainable.

Please see our discussion about why creating an effective campaign to attract more seasonal workers to your region (when employers actually need them) is more important than ever.
